ST. GEORGE — A 4-year-old boy was transported to the hospital with critical injuries Thursday evening after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.
A man was driving west on 180 North in a silver Kia Soul when the setting sun obscured his vision. His vehicle struck a boy who was riding his bicycle in the roadway, Hurricane City Police Officer Dan Raddatz wrote in a news release. The 59-year-old driver dialed 911.
The Hurricane City Police Department and the Hurricane Valley Fire District responded to the call.
The boy reportedly sustained “serious injuries” and was transported to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition. His parents were notified at the scene.
The 59-year-old driver fully cooperated with police and the incident is currently under investigation with the assistance of the Washington County Accident Reconstruction team, wrote Raddatz, thanking the team for their “help and expertise.” Additionally, the department thanked the Hurricane Valley Fire District for “their quick response and assistance.”
“We are sending our prayers to the victim and his family at this time,” he said.
This is a developing story.
