ST. GEORGE — The race for the Region 10 boys basketball championship will go down to the wire as three local teams won Friday night.

Dixie bounced back from its first region loss of the year with a convincing road victory. Pine View won a thriller at home in the Pit and Snow Canyon posted a big victory on the road.

Following are recaps of Friday night’s action on the high school hardwood.

The Flyers showed no ill effects from Wednesday night’s overtime defeat at Snow Canyon, riding a furious run in the second quarter all the way to a convincing victory in the Thunderdome.

“It’s a great bounce-back win,” Flyers junior guard Breckon Robinson told St. George News after the game. “Snow Canyon was a hard loss, and we got to move on. We’ve got to learn from it and move on. We still got life, it’s not over.”

Dixie set the tone in the second quarter, going on a 22-5 run at one point and taking a 36-28 lead into halftime. The Flyers canned four 3-pointers in the run, two by Robinson and two by Grant Carter.

“Desert Hills is a great shooting team. Last time we played they killed us from 3,” Robinson said. “But we got shooters over here too. We shoot a lot and we’re confident. Our coaches breathe that confidence into us and we practice a lot and that’s what we do.”

Kyle Lemke continued to pour it on for Dixie and scored 17 points. Robinson and Carter netted 16 points apiece and senior Laiken Willden threw in 11, including a monster dunk in the second quarter.

Desert Hills was slowed when Lincoln Holmes and Boston Holbrook each picked up a couple of early fouls and had to sit on the bench for a big chunk of the first half.

Holmes still managed to lead all scorers with 19 points in the setback. Eli Allred scored 10 first-half points and finished with 12 for the Thunder and Holbrook scored seven, including two 3-pointers.

Dixie flies back home to the Hangar to face Cedar on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.

Desert Hills stays at home in the Thunderdome to face Snow Canyon at the same date and time.

Nash Schroeder and Griffen Shepherd combined to score 46 of Pine View’s 60 points in the victory.

Other game statistics were not available at press time.

Leading scorer Owen Mackay took the night off and the outcome was never in doubt in the Tigers Den.

Snow Canyon led 15-10 after the first quarter and 27-18 at halftime.

Any hope of a Tigers comeback was quashed in the third quarter when the home team scored just three points.

Will Warner stepped in for Mackay and led the Warriors in nearly every statistic. Warner’s final line read 14 points scored including two 3-pointers, four rebounds, three assists and five steals.

Cy Meacham was next for Snow Canyon, the only other Warrior to score in double-digits with 11 points.

Snow Canyon next goes to Desert Hills for a game against the Thunder on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.
