Barbara Lorraine Bowne

Jan. 4, 1933 – Dec. 16, 2022

Barbara “Babe” Lorraine Bergin Bowne was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Santa Barbara, California to Roland Bergin and Mildred Ripley Bergin. Barbara grew up in Boston Massachusetts and Santa Barbara. She married Elbert L. Whitney in 1949 in Santa Barbara. They had two sons and two daughters who were raised in Santa Barbara. They divorced in 1969. Barbara later married Howard L Bowne in 1976, he had a daughter and son. Howard passed away in 2012 at their home in Hurricane.

Barbara passed away Dec. 16, 2022, in Hinckley, Utah at the home of her son-in-law and daughter/fulltime caregivers, Ray & Becky. She was surrounded by Ray & Becky’s family. Barbara suffered from dementia for a few years but the worst of it the last year. Her family would describe her as the toughest lady they knew. She would have turned 90 years old three weeks after she passed.

Barbara joined the LDS church in 1985. Barbara and Howard were sealed in 2014. They enjoyed their church callings and taking their grand-daughter Cori with them.

Barbara had many professions – bookkeeper, manager, food service, sales. She enjoyed dirt bikes, softball, bowling, travel, music, games with family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her children: Clint L Whitney, CA; Lenny (Bonnie) Whitney, UT; Rebekah (Ray) Searle, UT; Debra Bowne Ikeda, GA; and Mike Bowne, CA. She had 10 grandkids and 16 great-grandkids. Preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bowne and daughter, Elaine Boggioni.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street, Hurricane, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday, prior to services, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment will be at the Hurricane City Cemetery located at 255 East 600 North.
