ST. GEORGE — Two drivers sustained head injuries in a T-bone crash in Washington City over the weekend that left both a police patrol vehicle and passenger car inoperable.

Shortly after 8 p.m., officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Green Springs Drive and Buena Vista Boulevard on a two-vehicle crash involving a Toyota Camry and a St. George Police patrol vehicle.

Washington City Police Lt. Kory Klotz told St. George News that responders arrived to find both drivers with head injuries and two damaged vehicles partially blocking the intersection. Both drivers declined to be transported to the hospital by ambulance and said they would seek emergency medical attention on their own, he said, adding that both drivers were restrained when the collision occurred.

At the time of the crash, the officer driving the patrol car was heading west on Buena Vista, while the Toyota was heading north on Green Springs Drive. The officer told investigators that the traffic light was yellow as the patrol vehicle entered the intersection, while the Toyota driver said they entered the intersection on a green light, Klotz said.

“There were no witnesses who saw what happened when the crash occurred, and with conflicting statements and no objective third party account to work with, no citations were issued following the incident,” he said.

Because officers at the scene were unable to determine who was at fault, any further investigation was left to the insurance companies, Klotz said.

The two vehicles were rendered inoperable following the crash and both were subsequently towed from the scene.
