ST. GEORGE — A man riding an electric scooter was taken to the hospital on Tuesday night following a collision with a pickup truck at the Green Springs Drive underpass at Exit 10 in Washington City.

Just after 8 p.m., first responders were sent to the area of the Green Springs Drive underpass where the incident occurred. According to what independent witnesses told police, the juvenile driver of a gray Dodge pickup truck had exited southbound Interstate 15 at the Green Springs/Exit 10 off-ramp and was entering Green Springs Drive, Washington City Police Lt. Kory Klotz said.

The Dodge’s driver entered the intersection on a green light when the man on the electric scooter also entered the intersection on a do-not-walk light, Klotz said.

While the scooter and the truck collided with each other in the intersection, the scooter’s rider was reportedly able to hold onto the grill area of the truck until the Dodge came to a stop.

“He’s really lucky he wasn’t thrown,” Klotz said.

Though conscious and alert, the scooter rider sustained injuries to his legs, Klotz added. He was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital for care.

The pickup’s driver was rattled, but unharmed, Klotz said.

Washington City Police and Washington City Fire personnel also responded to the scene.

The scene was cleared by 8:30 p.m.
