“We’re not looking to sell the most products, but to really gain relationships with our customers and build the business organically that way,” general manager Amanda Lisardo said. “It’s been a rewarding experience to work with that in mind.”
Outdoor Living was created by Collins Stuart, a local contractor and owner of The Awning Company. While installing patio covers at homes throughout Southern Utah, he noticed many backyards were lacking quality furnishings. Most of his customers told him they had to travel outside of St. George to shop for patio products.
Recognizing an unmet need in the community, he initially opened a small patio furniture store with modestly priced products. Despite not having any experience in retail, he was dedicated to taking care of customers with the same commitment to personalized service that drives his awning business.
“Nobody here is in a hurry,” Lisardo said. “We take our time creating what the client needs, whether it’s a certain look or just something in stock.”
As time went on, Stuart found that most shoppers were interested in customization and high-end labels. Today, Outdoor Living carries a selection of top brands including Castelle, Brown Jordan, Woodard, Mallin, Lane Venture, Ratana, Jensen Leisure and many more. The store proudly sells labels designed and manufactured in the United States, like Tropitone and O.W. Lee; about 55% of their inventory is American-made.
Customers can design their personalized backyard with furnishings from a single product line or several different collections, adjusting the colors and details to suit their unique taste.
“Almost everything in our store can be customized,” Lisardo said. “A lot of the products have 20 different finishes and 200 different fabrics to choose from.”
It’s this combination of friendly small-town service and premium product lines that keeps people coming back. Customers often stop in just to say hello, see how the business is doing or share how much they’re enjoying their furniture.
While custom orders may be delayed due to supply chain issues and increased demand, items in the warehouse will be delivered to customers anywhere between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas within 48 hours of the order being placed. The delivery agent offers a white-glove service, Lisardo said, from unwrapping to fluffing pillows. They also make sure everything is in perfect condition and working properly.
If customers do experience any issues with their purchase, Outdoor Living’s warranty team is ready to help. They honor all manufacturer warranties and will help customers start the process of filing a claim for repair or replacement.
