On Monday night, Canseco will attempt to break the world record for the longest hit by a person over 50. This family-friendly event is free to the public with the option to purchase a hot dog, chips and a drink for $5. All food purchase proceeds will go directly to the Children’s Justice Center.

Attendees may donate directly to the cause by scanning the QR code on any one of the fliers at the event and entering a donation amount. Those who are unable to attend but still would like to donate can do so at this link. The event is sponsored by Vacation Resort Solutions owners Brandy and Kelly Perry along with Jordan Perry, general manager of Best Western Plus Settlers Point.

“We want to get as many people as we can to attend this fun event and support a great cause,” Brandy Perry said.

In addition to Canseco’s world record attempt, he will also be competing in the Home Run Derby. Those that have signed up through the university will be hitting with the goal of beating Canseco. The Home Run Derby will consist of multiple rounds. The first round will have 20 competitors who will all get 10 attempts to swing.

The top five participants with the most home runs will advance to round two. During the intermission between rounds, there will be a longest-ball competition.

Facilitated by volunteers, the Children’s Justice Center aims to protect children, advance justice, promote healing and educate the community.

“When abuse is suspected, the child is brought to the Children’s Justice Center–a safe, child-focused facility, to talk to a trained interviewer,” said Brandy Perry, who also serves as a Children’s Justice Center volunteer board member. “There is a team of law enforcement, child protective services, medical and mental health providers and victim advocates who handle the case and help the child.”

Perry also said the Justice Center is in need of donations to benefit all aspects of the facility, including the current expansion of the campus. Adding this new building will allow more space for additional mental health services, therapists and more, she said.

According to their website, the Children’s Justice Center is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance. They are funded in part by the Utah Attorney General’s Office, Washington County, the Utah Office for Victims of Crime under the Office for Victims of Crime Department of Justice, the 501(c)(3) Washington County Children’s Justice Center Board of Friends and by private donations.
