ST. GEORGE — The high school girls golf teams of Region 10 competed in their second weekly match of the season on Thursday at Southgate Golf Club in St. George.
The Pine View Panthers posted the top overall team score, with their top four golfers totaling 362 strokes over 18 holes. Desert Hills was the runner-up with 373, while third-place Dixie scored 378.
Pine View head coach Matt Wieland said that while weather conditions were favorable, “It was the first 18-hole round that most of the girls have walked this year, so I think fatigue was a factor.”
“Our team had a great start but had a hard time keeping it together late,” Wieland added. “We’re definitely excited to get another win but we learned today where our focus at practice needs to be.”
Dixie senior Annabelle Millard had the best individual score of the day, shooting a 2-over-par 73. Pine View’s Alyssa Butterfus ended up in second place with a 79, while Dixie’s Iris Pead placed third with a score of 84.
“Annabelle played outstanding,” Wieland said. “Her score doesn’t reflect how well she played and that’s saying a lot because her score was good enough win by six shots. It was also really great to see Iris Pead come in with a solid number and a top-five finish.”
Next week’s match is scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m. at Sky Mountain Golf Course in Hurricane.
