Pedestrian struck, killed in alleged hit-and-run on Red Cliffs Drive in Washington City

ST. GEORGE — A pedestrian was struck and killed on Red Cliffs Drive in Washington City on Thursday night by a vehicle that was no longer at the scene when police arrived. The Washington City Police Department is seeking help from the public to assist in the investigation.

Washington City Police Chief Jason Williams told St. George News at 9:45 p.m., emergency dispatch received a call reporting an injured man lying in the roadway near 1050 West and Red Cliffs Drive. The reports indicated the man was possibly struck by a vehicle.

Officers and emergency personnel responded and began treating the injured man, but despite continued life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Williams said the man sustained extensive trauma from the incident.

The vehicle involved was not at the scene when officers arrived, according to a statement released by the Washington City Police Department on Friday.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences” to the man’s family, the statement said, as well as appreciation for the many agencies that responded to the incident.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and the Washington City Police Department is seeking help from the public.

Washington City’s public information officer Kory Klotz asked that anyone who may have been in the area when the incident on Red Hills Drive took place is asked to call the Washington City Police Department at 435-986-1515.
