The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. near 900 South Main, involved a maroon Honda Accord and a silver Chevrolet Suburban, both of which were carrying multiple occupants.
Cedar City Police Sgt. Dustin Orton said the driver of the Suburban was attempting to make a left turn from Fir Street onto southbound Main Street when it turned in front of the Honda, which was traveling northbound on Main.
“They just turned in front of the other vehicle and failed to yield the right of way,” Orton said of the Suburban’s driver.
Orton said none of the occupants in either vehicle reported any injuries.
“There’s substantial damage to both vehicles but no injuries,” he said.
Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately 30 minutes while the scene was cleared. Police closed one northbound lane and the center turn lane as tow trucks arrived to retrieve and transport the wrecked vehicles, both of which had sustained significant front-end damage.
Cedar City Fire Department personnel also responded to the incident and helped with the cleanup of engine fluids.
