Traffic advisory: Expect lane restrictions on Arizona stretch of I-15 near Littlefield

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers to plan ahead as travel will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between miles 8 and 9 for two days. This will allow work crews to complete the final striping of the bridge’s approaches and departures and conduct some spot repairs.

Work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the following restrictions:

  • I-15 will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the bridge between mileposts 8-9, with other lane restrictions during spot repairs at northbound mileposts 3 and 6 and southbound mileposts 13 and 19.
  • Drivers should be prepared to slow down and merge over while moving through the work zone.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.
  • There will be an 11-foot vehicle width restriction in place.
  • The restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours.
  • Law enforcement will be present to ensure crews can safely complete the striping of the roadway.

General paving work on Virgin River Bridge No. 1 was completed in June, with the overall bridge opening to traffic in May after four years of work. Upgrades included the rebuilding and enhancement of the bridge and was the final project in a series of bridgework through the Virgin River Gorge that started in 2014.

The original bridges were built in the early 1970s and have since been upgraded and replaced. Work on Bridge No. 1’s structure has included replacing the abutments, support piers and deck of the bridge and creating an improved structure designed to safely carry passenger and commercial vehicle traffic for decades to come.
