ST. GEORGE — A St. George Police vehicle was hit a few blocks from Bluff Street Wednesday morning after investigators say a driver didn’t see the vehicle as they were turning.

No one was injured, authorities said.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden, the crash took place around 9:58 a.m. on 100 South near 300 West and involved the policed vehicle and a Nissan Leaf.

“The Nissan driver was making a U-turn and did not see the officer and hit their back passenger side,” Roden said.

Roden said the driver was cited.

As the crash involved a police vehicle, the UHP is handling the investigation.

The crash is the latest in a couple of recent crashes that have damaged St. George Police vehicles.

A St. George officer suffered minor injuries when their vehicle ran into the side of a sport utility vehicle in downtown St. George on March 5.

On Jan. 25, a St. George motorcycle officer heading to a crash was hit and also suffered minor injuries when their chopper was hit by an SUV.

Nearly a year ago, two St. George police vehicles were hit in a 24-hour period.

Officer Tiffany Mitchell said there are many factors as far as if repeated damages are not only damaging police vehicles, but also the department’s pocketbook.

“It depends on who’s at fault, if I understand correctly, because of the insurance threshold,” she said.
