Paper Jams: Celebrating the spirit of the season with violinist Melody Lyman

FEATURE — Southern Utah’s live music scene is flourishing and the Canyon Media crew is back to highlighting local musicians. So gather around for another session of “Paper Jams.”

Coming to you from Cloud 9 Studios at Canyon Media, this month’s edition of Paper Jams features a special holiday performance from violinist Melody Lyman.

Watch (and hear) Melody Lyman perform live from Cloud 9 Studios at Canyon Media in the media player above.

Fresh off her appearance in the Southwest Symphony’s annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah,” Lyman visited Cloud 9 Studios to play the Christmas classics “Joy to the World” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem” on her beloved instrument.

Lyman started playing the violin at age 5 and quickly became one of Southern Utah’s most acclaimed youth musicians. She has performed solos and ensembles at the regional and state level since she was 6 years old, receiving the highest marks available every year.

As a ninth grader, she was among the youngest musicians to play in Utah’s All-State Orchestra. She currently plays second violin for the Southwest Symphony and also teaches private lessons.

“It’s definitely something that has helped me escape life when it’s hard,” she said. “Music’s a really big passion of mine, and because of it, I was able to learn a bunch of different instruments that also help me through life.”
