Paper Jams: Rocking out with singer-songwriter Sarah Jane and her band at Birch Craft Barbering

FEATURE — Southern Utah’s live music scene is flourishing and the Canyon Media crew is back to highlighting local musicians. So gather around for another session of “Paper Jams.”

This month, Canyon Media brought Cloud 9 Studios to Birch Craft Barbering in St. George for an electrifying performance from local singer-songwriter Sarah Jane.

Watch (and hear) Sarah Jane and her band perform live from Cloud 9 Studios at Birch Craft Barbering in the media player above.

Sarah Jane and her band, which consists of guitarist Locklin Hammett, drummer Michael Westrich and bassist Dave Andersen, are fresh off appearances at Cedar City’s Landslide Festival and the Fall Concert Series at Red Cliffs Mall. They got the party started with her original song, “Trouble,” followed by a scorching cover of Alabama Shakes’ “Gimme All Your Love.”

Growing up in rural Wayne County, Sarah Jane’s early musical influences included church hymns, musicals, Disney soundtracks and country radio. Both of her parents are musically inclined, and her love of music and singing was obvious even at a very young age.

She started playing gigs at various venues and events across Southern Utah when she was just 17. An aspiring vocal coach, she has been involved with VocalizeU, a yearly Los Angeles music camp where Grammy-winning artists and world-renowned music experts spend 10 days teaching and guiding students, for the last 10 years.

She’s also an entrepreneur and the owner of Birch Craft Barbering, which she opened on St. George Boulevard this summer.

Sarah Jane’s debut EP, “Away,” is now available to listen and download via Spotify, Apple Music and most major streaming platforms. Keep up with her live performances on Instagram.
