HURRICANE — When building a home, homebuyers have a lot to consider, such as proximity to the city and amenities such as hospitals, schools and shopping.

For the more adventurous, some choose to build close to national parks, hiking trails, wide open spaces and a nearby water source to fish.

On Wednesday, The Estates at Sand Hollow Resort in Washington County held a groundbreaking ceremony offering those looking to build a home to view lots for sale with all of the features previously listed.

Hurricane Mayor Nanette Billings cut the ceremonial ribbon for the invite-only event at the Sand Hollow Resort golf course.

Just down the road from Sand Hollow State Park, Billings said those purchasing lots at The Estates at Sand Hollow Resort are only minutes away from schools, shopping, swimming and Zion National Park.

“What a beautiful area to plan on building a home,” Billings said. “You’re close to Sand Mountain, so you can drive your 4-wheeler, you are close to the lake — you can drive right across the street to the lake. We’re just in the recreation hub, and what a beautiful place to have a home.”

Sand Hollow Resort real estate specialist, Valerie Espinoza with eCore Premier, said homebuyers building in The Estates will have access to limited entry events and discounts for golf and watercraft rentals, as well as discounts on golf store merchandise, The Grille dining area and exclusive social events for homeowners association members.

“We have multiple, premier builders that will come in and custom build your home,” Espinoza said. “You can bring your own builder, they just have to be approved by the architecture committee.”

The first phase of homes is currently planned with 80 lots for sale and prices starting at $400,000 for one-third of an acre with lots up to 1.5 acres, Espinoza noted.

“Why wouldn’t someone want to live out here?” she said. “It’s an adventure in your backyard.”

One of the region’s premier homebuilders, Rick Richardson with Richardson Brothers Custom Homes, said plans are in the works for phase two of The Estates that will bring a total of 144 construction-ready lots to the Hurricane Valley.

“We have started construction on our first home in the area,” Richardson said. “These lots have 360-degree views and we take that into consideration when planning the custom homes we build.”

Homeowners at The Estates at Sand Hollow Resort will also have access to the local dog park, pickleball courts, a community gym, three heated swimming pools and the world-class golf course, Espinoza said.

Those purchasing a lot can also choose between amenities such as a personal golf cart, two e-bikes, one free year of golf or two years with no HOA dues.

Besides Zion National Park, The Estates are also a short drive to Snow Canyon and Quail Creek State Parks, shopping in St. George and two hours from Las Vegas.

“There are stars galore, because the light is low lighting,” Espinoza said. “There is just a beautiful night sky out here.”

Between the city-sponsored events held in Hurricane, the Washington County fair and the Sand Hollow Resort summer concert series, those building in The Estates at Sand Hollow Resort will have plenty of activities year-round.

“There is always something happening out here,” Billings said of the Hurricane Valley event scene. “We live in a beautiful area.”
