Hurricane’s Easter Car Show boasts better food, more vendors and louder cars

HURRICANE — For some folks, spring means only one thing … vroom!

The Rotary Club of Hurricane Valley will soon take over downtown for its 37th Annual Easter Car Show on Saturday, April 8. Billed as the largest car show in Southern Utah, hundreds of exciting automobiles and their owners from many states make the trek to Hurricane.

A yearly tradition for nearly four decades, the event features vendors and food, as well as classic, new and unique cars. More than 250 trucks, vans, motorcycles and unique car models from every decade will be on display for the public.

“This year we will have more food trucks and vendors than ever before,” coordinator Wade Beatty said. “Voting will be more interactive, as each car will have their own QR code and participants can vote for as many cars as they want, instead of voting with tickets.”

The winning car from each year’s People’s Choice Award will be featured on the following year’s car show T-shirts, event logos and on social media. Beatty said that registrations could be as high as 300 vehicles this year, so competition will be tough.

“We are a huge draw for auto enthusiasts from all over the Intermountain West and an institution here in Washington County,” he said. “We’ve got new events for the hot-rodders this year that should make things really interesting — this year is going to be big in every aspect.”

Organizers are expecting to draw 8,000-10,000 visitors to the Hurricane area. The car show is the Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from past shows have supported dozens of organizations over the decades, such as local schools, the Hurricane Valley Food Pantry, Washington County Search and Rescue and an orphanage in Haiti.

The Rotary Club All-Abilities Playground at Dixie Springs Park will be the main beneficiary of this year’s proceeds. Funds raised from last year’s car show helped start the construction on the park with wheelchair-accessible slides, soft play equipment and educational features. This year, Rotarians hope to complete their mission.

“We had the official groundbreaking and work has started on the park,” said Rotary President Patty Nation. “We still need about $100,000 to complete the project. It has been such a great mission for everyone who has participated. Hopefully, by the end of the car show, the endeavor will be completely paid for.”
