Clinton Mat Marshall, 51, was sentenced in 5th District Court in Cedar City on Aug. 21 by Judge Matthew L. Bell, who did not impose additional jail time beyond the 170 days that Marshall has already served in the Iron County Jail.

As previously reported, Marshall was arrested on March 3 following a late-night standoff with law enforcement officers at the Chevron Food Mart located at 304 N. Main Street.

He had reportedly hid inside the building while the clerk closed the store and left at 10 p.m. Police said he caused extensive damage to the interior of the store and merchandise.

Although he had initially faced more serious charges, Marshall ultimately pleaded guilty to a single count of burglary of a dwelling, a second-degree felony, and one count of property damage, a class A misdemeanor. He entered both guilty pleas on July 10 as part of a negotiated plea agreement.

Bell ordered Marshall to pay $6,442 in restitution to the Chevron station, plus interest, in monthly installments of $50, with the final payment scheduled to happen 20 years from now, in August 2043. No additional fines or fees were imposed, other than the mandatory $106 court security fees.

Bell also placed Marshall on a zero-tolerance probation for a period of 36 months, to be supervised by Adult Probation and Parole. Marshall was also ordered to complete a substance abuse evaluation and any associated treatment, along with 50 hours of community service.
