‘Steam my what?’: Ancient practice of Yoni Steaming comes to new St. George V-Spa

WASHINGTON CITY —This feminine health and womb wellness spa is specializing in something you may never have heard of – vagina steaming. And yes, it’s a real thing.

“People hear about it and say, ‘Steam my what?’” Christina Cosme, owner of SeaMara’s V-Spa said. “I know it sounds weird and different, but it’s something that is beneficial to the reproductive system. It helps with menstrual cramps, regulating periods, fertility, dryness, libido, sexual energy and a release of toxic energy. And it brings in self-love and self-care.”

The experience is called Yoni Steaming, an ancient practice that Cosme said has been used throughout history in places like Panama, Mexico and Guatemala to help the reproductive system let go of toxic energy and sexual trauma.

While it may initially make some people uneasy, Cosme said she wants the public to know that it’s a meditative and relaxing experience and each session is extremely private. Individuals remain clothed in a large robe that covers both the body and the seat they sit on. And each seat has curtains around it for full privacy.

Steaming sessions range up to 60 minutes and include an optional guided meditation. Spiritual books about self-love and self-empowerment are available to read. An eight-page intake session is done prior to any Yoni Steaming services. This allows Cosme to review medical history, medications and more.

“I want to be thorough,” she said. “I want to know pregnancies, pains, diagnosis because I want to actually heal you. This is not something you just come, steam, and go home. Yes, it’s an experience, but it’s also your healing.”

But the steaming experience isn’t just for women. It’s also available for men.

SeaMara’s V-Spa offers Lingam Steaming, which promotes prostate health as it boosts blood and oxygen circulation into the pelvic area. This can stop growth, pain, and blockage of the prostate as well as help with hemorrhoids and increase libido.

As for the spa’s name, SeaMara means “protected by the gods,” and is also her 18-year-old daughter’s name.

“I’m all about that we have to have self-love, because without it, who are we?” she said. “All these women search for this love and they want this love, but it’s a love you already have within you. It took me a very long time to realize that.”

Cosme said she was “spiritually awakened” about seven years ago. She began taking courses in herbal medicine and practicing a variety of herbal remedies. As she read more about women’s health along with self-care and self-love, she realized all of her research led back to Yoni Steaming and had to learn more.

“I really wanted to see what I could do to help women naturally heal themselves,” she said.

Cosme said Yoni Steaming is popular in the Midwest, and she performed services there for years prior to moving to St. George. She is currently attending college and will soon join the Licensed Nurse Practitioner program. She plans to incorporate her college degree and other certifications — which include a Certified Peristeam Facilitator, Crystal Healer and Herbalist — into her Yoni Steaming, and offer childbirth doula services in the future.

“This is where my heart is,” Cosme said about her new business. “This is where I connect. This is where I feel one with people, where I can help people — heal people on a spiritual level and holistic level. So I’m going to give it my all.”

For those not interested in experiencing a steaming session, she offers her own drinkable remedies to help with a variety of symptoms caused by PCOS, pre-menopause, menopause and much more.

Yoni Steaming treatment plans range up to six months, with treatments starting at $75 for a 60-minute session. New clients can try out a 15-minute V-Spa session for $35. Additional services at SeaMara’s V-Spa include facial steaming with essential oils, foot milk baths, crystal healing sessions, spiritual egg cleansing and more.
