The golf course at the under-construction Black Desert Resort in Ivins has announced it will fully open on May 27.

Construction started in last 2021 and the first nine holes opened last November while the rest of the course’s fairways were left to grow.

“It does seem like things have gone quickly,” Patrick Manning, managing partner of Black Desert developer Enlaw LLC, told St. George News, adding the nine-hole tryout helped prepare them for the full opening. “The preview period has been well-received and provided lots of confidence as to the quality the Black Desert course has been built to and cared for.”

The 19-hole, par 72 course, the last designed by former PGA pro and architect Tom Weiskopf before his passing last year, includes greens supplied from gray water owned by the resort that won’t draw off Washington County’s water supply. The 70- to 100-yard-wide fairways are set along lava rock and artificial lakes.

The 19th hole in the case of Black Desert Resort is an actual fairway, green and flag – an 85-yard par 3 – as a “bonus hole” as opposed to the slag term for after-round refreshment at the clubhouse.

But at least for the first few months, golfers will have to be content with the normal 18 holes as the 19th is still being finished.

Tee times, which are available at this link, are described as an “experience” with features that are different from most courses including advanced cartsw with GPS and narration Weiskopf recorded before his death as well as food and beverage included.

The cost of a round of golf for two to four players are $250 each.
