Couple, Evan and Mavis Cramer, celebrate 70th anniversary

ST. GEORGE — St. George residents Evan and Mavis Cramer, ages 89 and 88 respectively, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Monday.

Evan, a farm boy from Ucon, Idaho, met Mavis while he was stationed in San Diego in Feb. 1945 during her senior year in high school. It was love at first sight and they were married in November of that same year in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the end of the war, Evan received his bachelors degree from Brigham Young University and began his career in education as a teacher and elementary school principal in El Cajon, California, San Diego County. They raised their six children there before Evan’s retirement in 1982 when they moved to Utah. Evan worked as a teacher and elementary school principal for another 10 years in Roosevelt, Duchesne County Utah before settling in St. George upon his second retirement in 1992. Mavis has never retired from her chosen career as a stay-at-home-mom and homemaker. Evan also served as Stake Patriarch in the LDS Church in both the San Diego and St. George areas for over 30 years.

Evan and Mavis have been blessed with 27 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
