Bonita Ballard Campbell

Jan. 21, 1932-July 27, 2024

Bonita (Bonnie) Ballard Campbell passed away on July 27, 2024, in Hurricane, Utah, at the age of 92. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Bonnie was born on Jan. 21, 1932, in Hurricane, Utah, to Vera and Thatcher Ballard. She was one of their nine children. She was preceded in death by her husband Clark; her parents; sister Delma (Jack and Angelyn) Lemmon; brothers Tony (Afton) Ballard, Darwin (Dorothy) Ballard, Rauland (Iris) Ballard and Clark (Merlene) Ballard; sister-in-law Carolyn Ballard; brother-in-law Ralph Briscoe; and son-in-law John Cooper.

Bonnie is survived by her seven children: Carolee (Leon) Gay, Shanna (Gordon) Holt, Janet (John) Cooper, David (Debbie) Campbell, Tina (Kelly) Lundeen, Tami (Brian) Chandler and Shirlyn (Brian) Jocelyn; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Roy (Kay) Ballard, Jimmy Ballard and her sister Lola Briscoe.

Bonnie married her sweetheart, Clark Allen Campbell, on Aug. 22, 1950, in the St. George Temple.

Bonnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bonnie served in various capacities in the church. She served in Relief Society Presidencies, and Young Women Presidencies as a facilitator in the 12-step program for the church with her husband Clark and many other callings.

Bonnie was always a very hard worker. At the age of 9, she was babysitting children. She would tend in the evenings and weekends in the winter and full-time in the summer. At 14, she began tending children for a cafe owner. He was so impressed with her dependability, resourcefulness, attitude and sparkle that he got her a work permit, and she began working 40-hour weeks in the cafe. She usually worked from six in the evening until closing at two in the morning. Besides working a 40-hour week while in high school, Bonnie was also a cheerleader and managed to be in school plays almost every year.

Bonnie met Clark at a Golden Green Ball in January of 1950. During the spring they became engaged and were married in August of that same year.

Bonnie was very creative and did so many DIY projects before it was even a thing! There was nothing she couldn’t do when she set her mind to it. She was an expert seamstress, baker, cook, mother and homemaker. Everything she did, she gave it 100% and then some. She was always willing to share her time, talents and resources with others.

Bonnie’s greatest joys in life were her husband and family and serving others in whatever capacity she could.
