The fire was determined to be caused by a lightning holdover according to the most recent update on Utah Fire Info.

“Yesterday, strong winds increased the fire spread,” the social media update stated on Saturday, July 27. “Last night, the fire was not as active due to higher humidity levels. Today, 45 firefighters are on scene and expect to make progress in containment.”

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for several counties across south and central Utah for Saturday morning through Sunday evening. Relative humidity levels will be as low as 6% in those areas, creating critical fire weather conditions.

The Graff Point Fire burning near Shurtz Canyon, also in Iron County, is currently being reported as 86% contained by Utah Fire Info.

First reported on July 12, Iron County Fire Warden Ryan Riddle told Cedar City News that firefighting crews are battling containment through tough weather.
