Howard Roy Bringhurst

June 8, 1938-June 28, 2024

Howard Roy Bringhurst, age 86, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, in Hurricane, Utah. He was welcomed with open arms by his mother, father and all his siblings. What a reunion it had to have been. Howard was born in Toquerville, Utah, on June 8, 1938, to Leland Howard and Hazel Eager Bringhurst.

He graduated from Hurricane High School class of 1956. Although life and job opportunities took him away from Southern Utah, he always made his way back home. He loved to share stories about the people he had met and the impact they had on his life. He was a good friend to many. Some of his most significant jobs were with Graff’s Mercantile, The Nevada Test Site and working on the road crew for the Utah Department of Transportation, but his claim to fame came from his extraordinary skills as a body and fender man. He was sought after, and his work was valued in several Bodyshop in both Southern Utah and Nevada. He was a hardworking, honest man.

He loved spending time in the mountains and hills of Southern Utah with family and friends camping, hunting, fishing and looking for arrowheads. His hobbies included rebuilding vehicles, playing pool, and growing big, amazing gardens with delicious tomatoes that he loved to share.

He married and later divorced Sharon Adair. On Dec. 6, 1968, he married the love of his life Anita (Humphries) Bringhurst — they have been married for 56 years and have three children.

He is survived by his wife Anita and his children Rick Sheffer, Kathleen Sheffer (Pat) Brown and Haven Bringhurst (Rick) Wright; 14 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws Buck (Dawn) Humphries, Bud (Sadie) Humphries, Glenwood (Diana) Humphries, Craig (Ethelyn) Humphries Jimmy (Pam) Humphries Sister-in-laws Marian (Glen) Starr, Elva Roberts, Lajuana (Ken) Parker and Janice (Joe) Peacock and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leland and Hazel Bringhurst, his in-laws Aften and Clara Humphries, his siblings and their spouses Alice May Bringhurst, Mona (Clark) Olds, Leland Edgar Bringhurst, Dola (Bud) Dalton, Norene (Lyman) Gubler, LaRue (Emery) Branham, LaRee Bringhurst, Roxie (Richard) Beaumont, George (Clair) Bringhurst and Alvin Leon Bringhurst; and brothers-in-law Roy Aften Humphries, Roger Humphries, Randy Humphries and Ray Roberts and two precious great-grandsons.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 5, at 10 a.m., at the Hurricane City Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 452 N 2600 W, Hurricane, Utah.

Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St. George, 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to click here to sign Howard’s online guest book.
