History That Doesn’t Suck

Adapted from his popular American history podcast, Utah Valley University Professor Greg Jackson tells the epic tale of “The Unlikely Union,” weaving defining moments in early American history (1754-1865) into a thrilling narrative of the struggle and triumph of a young nation to form, define and reform itself from the American Revolution through the Civil War. Hear the first 100 years of American history told in 100 minutes, accompanied by live music and video.

History That Doesn’t Suck will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Eccles Fine Arts Center at Utah Tech University. Tickets cost $15-$20 for students (ages 11-18) and $35-$45 for the general public. Click here to reserve your seat.

United We Pledge will also participate in the city of St. George’s Fourth of July parade earlier that day. A crew of volunteers is set to carry Miss Liberty through the historic downtown district.

“Liberty Week is going to be really inspiring, and we really hope that people will come,” said Janel Hood, events director for United We Pledge.

United We Pledge is a nondenominational, nonpartisan local organization that emphasizes civic education, particularly for the youth of Southern Utah. Give Me Liberty, their educational program focusing on American history and principles, has been introduced into Washington County’s schools with the goal of expanding statewide.

“We’re basically providing a lot of civics education that isn’t normally provided in the classroom, and it really helps re-engage kids with our nation’s history,” United We Pledge marketing director Lisa Hunt said. “It helps them really feel the spirit of America and understand our core values that make us great.”

United We Pledge also operates a unique mobile exhibit with the Give Me Liberty bus, a school bus transformed into an interactive educational experience on wheels.

Liberty Village, a 32-acre campus in Hurricane designed to recreate iconic American historical buildings, is coming soon. When complete, it will be an educational destination for youth and visitors that hopes to offer an immersive experience in the founding history of the U.S.
