“We are very excited to offer community banking services in the Cedar City area,” Cache Valley Bank CEO John T. Jones said. “We feel like with the economic development happening in the area, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. We want the citizens to understand our commitment to their community.”

A serendipitous encounter with Dan Roberts revealed the perfect location: a historic building at 26 N. Main St. in downtown Cedar City. Now, the bank is meticulously restoring much of the building to its original state.

“We’re investing in downtown Cedar City, which is something Cache Valley Bank does – restore significant buildings that we feel have played a role in downtown culture,” Jones added.

Managing the newest Cache Valley Bank branch in Cedar City will be Eric Heaton and Annette Smith, who are deeply rooted in the community with many longstanding ties to Cedar City. Their extensive experience in the banking industry, combined with their local knowledge and commitment, will ensure they provide exceptional service to their clients.

Heaton and Smith, along with their staff, understand the unique needs of the area and are passionate about supporting the financial well-being of their fellow residents. At this new branch, locals are truly serving locals, fostering a sense of trust and community spirit.

For 34 years, Jones has lived and worked in St. George, and every community bank he has worked with toyed with the idea of opening a branch in Cedar City, but none were successful. When he became the Southern Utah regional president at Cache Valley Bank in 2016, he badly wanted to open a branch in Cedar City. Last year, upon being named CEO, he finally brought that vision to life.

“My ancestors used to use the term ‘stick-to-it-iveness,’” he said. “The pioneers throughout Utah definitely had this. This pioneer heritage is what links us throughout the state. Cache Valley Bank has that same determination and persistence to help our communities and clients. I guess you could say we’ve had a little ‘stick-to-it-iveness’ in finally opening that branch that we have been visualizing for over seven years.”

Jones’s paternal ancestors were pioneers who helped establish Iron County; including Lehi Willard Jones, his great-great-uncle, who served as president of the board of Bank of Southern Utah headquartered in Cedar City. In addition, Lehi Jones served as a prominent community leader, being instrumental in the economic development of Cedar City following the Great Depression. He served in many roles, including city councilman, mayor of Cedar City and the first president of the Cedar Chamber of Commerce.

Cache Valley Bank presently operates four branches in Washington County alongside branches spread across central and northern Utah. The forthcoming Cedar City branch signifies the company’s debut in Iron County. With renovations in progress, the building is expected to be open by the fourth quarter of 2024.

Cache Valley Bank’s tagline “Mountains Await” embodies a powerful theme, reflecting the idea that owning and operating a business is comparable to climbing a mountain: full of difficult challenges, but with perseverance, it can lead to incredible rewards for the community, much like the breathtaking view from a summit. This concept also inspired the term “Financial Outfitter,” highlighting Cache Valley Bank’s commitment to guiding businesses through their financial journeys.

Cache Valley Bank is a member of the FDIC and an equal housing lender. They operate four offices in Southern Utah and 21 other locations across Utah and Idaho. For more information, visit CacheValleyBank.com or call 888-418-5333.
