Shortly after 2 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to an incident involving a youth bicycle rider struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk.

The vehicle was allegedly traveling on 800 E., approaching the intersection at St. George Boulevard. The driver attempted to turn but reportedly didn’t see the bicyclist who was riding across the crosswalk, St. George Police Department public information officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News.

The driver was cited for failure to yield, Mitchell added. No information regarding the cyclist’s condition is being released at this time.

St. George News reporter Bridger Palmer arrived at the scene as the bike rider was loaded into a Gold Cross ambulance, noting the scene was “quiet and nondescript.”

“There was no debris on the ground,” Palmer added. “No gathered crowd.”

Traffic didn’t appear to be hampered, as the nearby McDonald’s fast food chain “kept chugging along.”

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
