The Hidale-Colorado City Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 2000 South and 200 East after receiving an emergency call about a large piece of machinery catching fire inside a commercial building.

“When we fire got there, we found heavy smoke coming from the interior portion of the structure coming out of the back side,” Hildale-Colorado City Fire Capt. Jesse Barlow told St. George. “It was heavy, heavy smoke.”

Despite the dense smoke, firefighters could see the smoke begin the change color as the first fire engine arrived on scene, which meant the building’s fire sprinklers started functioning and attacking the fire, Barlow said.

When firefighters entered the building, they found the fire had been knocked down heavily by the sprinkler system and extinguished what remained.

The fire was primarily contained to the machinery that caught fire with some minor structural damage to the building.

No injuries were reported in connection to the fire and the cause is under investigation, Barlow said.

A crew from Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene at the request of the Hildale-Colorado City Fire Department, as did officers from the Colorado City Police Department.
