ST. GEORGE — A 49-year-old man was arrested on a warrant issued out of American Fork after deputies up north found him with a vehicle listed as stolen from a dealership in St. George.

On Wednesday, St. George Police officers arrested Stacey Jensen, of St. George, on a second-degree felony warrant issued in connection with an incident reported on March 7 when Utah County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in American Fork on what was initially reported as a suspicious person call.

According to charging documents filed in 4th District Court in Utah County, officers arrived to learn there was a Hyundai Veloster at the residence reportedly stolen out of St. George.

The caller told officers Jensen went to the residence several times that week to see a friend after his release from jail in Washington County a week or so before.

Deputies were also advised that Jensen had shown up at the residence driving the Hyundai that was parked behind the house.

When deputies arrived on scene, they knocked on the door and were met by one of the occupants, and standing directly behind the man who answered the door was Jensen. Both men were asked to step outside and then were detained by police.

Once officers confirmed Jensen’s identity, he was arrested and searched prior to being transported to jail. Deputies found a Hyundai key with the dealership tag still attached in the pocket of the jacket the suspect was wearing.

The vehicle had a dealership plate, and a records check confirmed the car was listed as stolen from a dealership in St. George. The suspect was loaded into a patrol vehicle for the ride to jail while the deputy read the suspect his rights. Jensen said he did not want to speak to officers without a lawyer present and the deputy proceeded to transport Jensen to jail without asking any questions.

During the ride, the suspect became upset and said he “stole the vehicle and that he is tired of being arrested,” the deputy noted in the report.

The suspect was booked into the Utah County Jail facing second-degree felony theft.

Meanwhile, the deputy ran the suspect’s criminal history that revealed Jensen had multiple cases and convictions, as well as several open cases.

Since March, Jensen has been arrested on six different cases, including the arrest in American Fork, and had multiple convictions for theft, criminal trespass, commercial obstruction, drugs and other offenses.

The felony warrant that Jensen was arrested on in St. George was issued earlier this month after he failed to appear for a hearing held in American Fork on the vehicle theft case.

He was also booked into jail on a misdemeanor warrant issued on a theft case filed out of Carbon County and he remains in custody on $8,300 bail.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
