ST. GEORGE — Rethink your morning commute and enjoy some fresh air by participating in National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17.
The city of St. George will recognize the Bike to Work Initiative by operating three stations throughout the city that will have light snacks and swag items available for cyclists between 7 and 9 a.m.
The locations include:
- Downtown: Zion’s Square, 20 N Main St.
- Crosby Family Confluence Park: 1953 S. Convention Center Drive
- Sun River Trailhead: Intersection of Bluegrass Way and Arrowhead Drive
“Riding a bike to work is a fun way to switch up my morning commute,” Lloyd Sutton, Active Transportation coordinator for the city of St. George, said in a news release. “I find it stress-relieving riding along our scenic trails and bike lanes, getting some physical activity while having a few minutes to enjoy being outside before a day at the office.
“Following the success of Roll With Patrol on May 6, I’m looking forward to another great community turnout at our three Bike to Work stations.”
National Bike to Work Day advocates for roadway safety and efficiency for our shared roads, the news release said. It highlights the benefits of getting exercise, saving on fuel and vehicle costs and reducing traffic. National Bike to Work Day also raises awareness of cyclists who commute to work and provides a fun incentive for those who want to give it a try.
The city of St. George has 73 miles of paved trails along its trail system. Buoyed by the voter-approved Trails, Parks and Recreation General Obligation Bond, the city has plans to add 11 new trails or trail connections over the next several years, the news release said.
