Thomas Franklin Duce

May 20, 1943 – April 29, 2024

Thomas Franklin Duce died on April 29, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his family in Providence, Utah. Tom was born May 20, 1943, in Everett, Washington.

He married Joanne Folden in 1962 and had seven children, 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was a loving family man who shared his love, wisdom and work ethic with his family throughout his life.

Tom was a graduate of Brigham Young University before getting his master’s degree from Idaho State. He went on to become a school teacher and coach in Bancroft, Preston and Weston, Idaho and later in Logan, Utah.

One of his greatest joys in life was mentoring the youth. “Mr.D” was also a successful business owner, formerly the owner of the Island Market in Logan, Mr. D’s in St. George and many other businesses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports — he was a loyal fan of the BYU Cougars, the Atlanta Braves and the Utah Jazz.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his whole life and served in many callings.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Duce; his siblings Richard Duce, Carol Ann Hyatt, John Duce, and Elaine Duce; his children, Debra Ryan (Michael), Lisa Udy (Jerry), Julie Shaffer, Matthew Duce (Kristy), Diane Bolding (Bryant), and Crystal Duce; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son David Duce; his parents, LeGrand and Carol Duce; and his siblings, LeGrand Duce, Janice Frenzel, and Kenneth Duce.

A visitation will be held at Nelson Funeral in Logan, Utah on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m.
