The incident, which was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m., happened a short distance east of the intersection of Main and 800 South and involved a white Ford F-150 pulling an enclosed utility trailer.

Cedar City Fire Chief Mike Phillips described the blaze as a “complex, three-dimensional, running fuel fire that ended up having burning gas dripping into the storm drain.”

Nevertheless, responding firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

Crews from three fire engines, one command vehicle and one squad vehicle responded to the incident, Phillips added.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow said the vehicle’s engine appears to have overheated.

Although the truck itself was obviously a total loss, its attached trailer did not appear to sustain much, if any, damage.

Traffic along Main Street and Joe Thurston Way was impacted until the scene was fully cleared.

This report is based on preliminary statements from first responders and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
