Cedar High School speech and debate team wins 3rd straight region title

CEDAR CITY — Cedar High School’s speech and debate team won the region championship for the third year in a row.

In the Region 9 competition held at Southern Utah University in Cedar City on Feb. 27, the Reds saw several top finishers, including some who placed highly in more than one category.

Cedar swept the top three spots in informative speech, with Elena Roundy placing first, Grace Hansen taking second and Lauren Yardley finishing third. 

Also for the Reds, Dawson Marriott placed first in Congress and second in impromptu. Hadley Persons finished second in both domestic (national) extemp and Congress. Logan Nelson placed third in both policy and domestic extemp.

Region 9’s top three placers in each category are listed below. Besides those listed, other finalists for Cedar High included Katelyn Green, Katie Anderson, Jackson Hinton, Milton Lo, Jake Riddle and Trason Hayden

Next up for the debaters is the 4A state tournament, which will be staged this Friday and Saturday, March 8-9, at Payson High School.
