ST. GEORGE — A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of State and Main streets in Hurricane Thursday afternoon resulted in the traffic signal temporarily going dark.
The incident was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. following a collision between a Ford Focus and a Ford pickup truck, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Dan Raddatz told St. George News.
The driver of the Focus was westbound and reportedly entered the State Street-Main Street intersection during a red light and collided with the pickup truck that was making a left turn toward Main Street on a green light.
“(The) truck ended up striking the Ford Focus, which then ended up sending it over into the power box for the traffic signal,” Raddatz said.
Hitting the power box knocked out power to the signal for a short time until a crew from the Utah Department of Transportation arrived and restored operations.
Police cited the Ford Focus driver of for a red light violation, Raddatz said.
The occupants of the Ford Focus and pickup truck were examined by responding medical personnel from Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue and were found to have no major injuries. They also declined being transported to the nearest medical facility by ambulance, the officer said.
