ST. GEORGE — Southern Utah’s mountains could see up to 18 inches of snow between Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for Washington, Iron, Beaver, Garfield and Kane Counties.
The advisory runs from noon Tuesday through 10 p.m. Wednesday and specifically mentions the Tushar Range and Brian Head, as well as Alton
According to a news release, the weather service said total snow accumulations of 6-12 inches are predicted through Wednesday evening, mainly above 7,500 feet, and locally up to 18 inches in the Tushar Range and near Brian Head.
As of 3:50 p.m p.m. Tuesday, the weather service updated the alert as follows: “Areas west of Highway 89 have the best chance of heavy snow, particularly slopes that are favored under southwest flow such as the Tushars and Brian Head vicinity.”
Traction restrictions are possible, and the NWS and UDOT remind travelers to exercise caution while traveling, to slow down and to be sure to pack extra supplies before heading out.

The NWS is predicting the following for Brian Head:
A 20 percent chance of snow Tuesday night with a low temperature of 25 and wind chills as low last 10. Winds are expected to range from 23-28 mph. Snow is likely to begin Tuesday after 11 a.m. with 1-3 inches of snow during the day and 2-4 additional inches overnight. Wednesday could see 4-8 additional inches of snow and a high temperature of 29 with winds of 14-18 mph.
The Cedar City forecast calls for rain on Tuesday changing to snow Wednesday morning. Temperatures will range from a low of 29 to a high of 46 between Tuesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, St. George will see a 60-70% chance of rain Tuesday and a 90% chance of rain Wednesday with a predicted low temperature of 41 and a high of 57. Thursday calls for mostly sunny with a high of 59
