Dammeron Valley responded with Engine 131 and Battalion 131 and Santa Clara – Ivins Fire & Rescue responded with Medic Ambulance 31, Medic Ambulance 32 and Battalion 31, according to a department social media post.

“The accident involved a single motorcycle with a rider and passenger,” the fire department posted. “The motorcycle left the roadway, throwing both riders off the vehicle, resulting in injuries to both parties.”

The patients were transported to St. George Regional Hospital; one via Intermountain Life Flight and the other by Gold Cross Ambulance. According to officials, the condition of the patients is unknown. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Gunlock Fire Department, Veyo Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Utah Department of Natural Resources law enforcement also assisted at the site.

“Motorcycle accidents regularly occur on Gunlock Road, usually because of excessive speed,” fire officials said. “DVFR reminds riders to travel at a safe speed for the road conditions, be aware of traffic and wildlife — and always wear a helmet to mitigate injuries.”

Santa Clara – Ivins Fire Department officials told St. George News their involvement was minimal.

“We were called in as mutual aid in an abundance of caution,” Lance Haynie, fire management officer with Santa Clara – Ivins Fire Deparment, said. “Two individuals on a single motorcycle, one was a minor.”

The duo were among a group of riders and may not have been familiar with road and surrounding area, Haynie added.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
