Firefighters with the Hurricane Valley Fire District were dispatched to the Knollwood Townhomes on 6300 West in Hurricane around 8:30 p.m. Initial calls to the scene reported the sight of smoke coming from one of the townhome garages.

The first crew to arrive on the scene made entry within a few minutes of the being sent to the townhomes and found a fire in a corner of the garage. A few boxes and a what appeared to be a space heater were stored there, Hurricane Valley Fire Battalion Chief Kohl Furley said.

The flames were knocked down and fire extinguished, with fire crews remaining on scene to mop up the operation, ventilate the smoke and investigate the cause of the fire.

The occupants of the fourplex were all accounted for and safe, Furley said. One individual who lived in the home with the garage that caught fire was taken to the Hurricane Clinic for medical care. Furley said he did know the extent of the patient’s potential injuries.

Four cats were also retrieved from the home and doing well, Furley added.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
