The incident, which reportedly occurred shortly before 11:45 a.m., involved a silver GMC Yukon full-size SUV and a black Toyota Highlander SUV.

Cedar City Police Cpl. Eric Heaps said the Toyota driver was heading west on 1325 North when the vehicle was struck on its driver’s side by the northbound Yukon.

“It appears that the vehicle traveling northbound ran the red light and impacted this vehicle and kind of flipped it around,” Heaps told Cedar City News at the scene as firefighters used a hydraulic tool to free the Toyota driver from the wreckage.

The Toyota driver was loaded onto a Gold Cross Ambulance and transported a short distance to Cedar City Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Heaps said her injuries did not appear to be serious.

No other injuries were reported for either the Yukon driver or the Toyota passenger, Heaps added.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and needed to be towed from the scene.

Traffic along Main Street was impacted for approximately 45 minutes while emergency responders investigated the incident and tow truck operators worked to clear the wreckage from the intersection.

Multiple Cedar City Police officers responded, as did several personnel from Cedar City Fire Department.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
