ST. GEORGE — A pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck at the corner of St. George Boulevard and Flood Street/400 East Wednesday morning but did not require medical transport, police said.
The collision happened around 8:50 a.m. and blocked eastbound traffic on the boulevard for about 10 minutes.
Officer Casen Loria with St. George Police said the middle-aged man was hit by a red pick-up with the driver as the only passenger. The man was crossing the boulevard while the walk sign was activated. He said a bright, rising sun may have been a factor in the morning crash.
“(The truck) was on 400 East, just north, getting ready to turn eastbound onto the boulevard. He had a blinking yellow,” Loria said. “We had a pedestrian with a crosswalk sign. (The driver) didn’t see him with the sun and ran into him.”
Loria said the investigation was pending and it was unclear if the driver was going to be cited or charged.
The man remained on the ground in the left eastbound lane sitting up as Gold Cross paramedics and other first responders with the St. George Fire Department tended to him. He was talking coherently.
He then got up and walked toward a nearby ambulance and was given a coherence test and passed it and was cleared of the need for treatment. Hee refused transport to the hospital.
