ST. GEORGE — A man whose sports utility vehicle was in a T-bone crash in Hurricane was able to walk under his own power to the nearby Hurricane Clinic and Emergency Room.

Police said a driver running a red light caused the two-car collision around 1:50 p.m. Friday at the corner of State Street and Rlington Drive.

Hurricane Police Officer Dan Radditz said a 68-year-old male driving a Buick Enclave north on Rlington was clear to make a left turn onto State Street. However, he said a 35-year-old male driving a Honda Civic west on State rammed his vehicle into the side of the SUV.

“He plain old failed to stop for the red light and we ended with a T-bone-style collision,” said Radditz, adding that the damage from to the SUV made it look like its driver was worse for wear than he actually was.

“It looked really bad, but the driver of the Enclave just walked over to the ER to get checked out,” Radditz said. “It was more a precaution thing on his part.”

The emergency room at the corner opened two months ago.

Radditz said the driver of the Civic said he didn’t need any aid but was cited for running the red light.

This report is based on statements by emergency personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings of the investigation.
