ST. GEORGE — After rushing a 3-year-old girl with severe burns to the hospital, a Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue crew delivered gifts to her family at a Nevada hospital.
On Dec. 17, crew members from the department’s Station 43C responded after the child “accidentally got burned,” according to a recent Facebook post.
“The incident was very significant, causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 55% of her body,” the department wrote. “The crew arrived quickly, loaded her into the ambulance, and took her to the hospital.”
They assessed and treated her injuries on the way to St. George Regional Hospital. She was flown to a burn center in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she is still receiving care.
While the crew members were off-duty earlier this week, they traveled to Las Vegas to deliver gifts and other items to the family, who spent the holidays at the hospital, the post reads. Those in attendance included Capt. Melvin Barlow, Capt. Haven Barlow, and firefighters Jonathon Hanagan, Shem Hammon and Kason Lemmon.
“We sincerely hope for a quick (recovery) for this little girl who is going through a lot,” the department wrote. “We are extremely proud of our crew and the empathy they portray.”
