Sand Hollow State Park Manager Ranger Candace Smith said the 18-year-old woman was transported with lacerations to her head and hands after allegedly taking a dirt road turn too sharp and too fast at about 11:45 a.m.

The Jeep wrecked in the Lake View Campground area on the east side of the reservoir.

Smith said the woman was on the main road that travels around the reservoir and went to turn into the campground on a dirt road and caught loose gravel. With the high speeds she was traveling at, she rolled the Jeep smashing the top of the vehicle.

The damaged Jeep was loaded onto a flatbed trailer by the owners and transported home. A Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue ambulance and a fire unit responded. State Park rangers were on the scene assisting as well. The scene was cleared by 1 p.m. with little effect on the park traffic.

Smith said the woman was responsive and looked well, but sustained head injuries and could not comment further on her current condition. The patient had to be extricated from the vehicle by the firefighters. Two male occupants were able to get out by themselves and were examined and released on scene.

Smith said it was important to remember that the speed limit around the lake is 25 miles per hour for the paved and marked dirt roads and 10 miles per hour within the campgrounds.

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
