ST. GEORGE —Rain poured down Sunday morning as thunder echoed in the distance. For those with their Christmas trees up, it was a cozy morning. That was until the twinkling lights of the tree abruptly shut off. And so did the heater.

“We’re calling it a large outage issue because we know at least more than 500 customers are affected,” Rene Fleming with the City of St. George Energy Services said.

Fleming told St. George News that crews were working hard to restore electricity as soon as possible and asked for the community’s patience.

“With the storm rolling through, we had some breakers that opened,” Fleming said. “But we’re inspecting the lines right now to ensure there are no safety issues and then we’ll start to restore power as soon as we know that potential issues have been looked at.”

While they’ve been inundated with phone calls, she said there is no website or phone number that tracks and provides the status of an outage. Crews are working hard to restore power and are unable to take calls at this time.

“I would just like people to know that we’ll have crews respond as quickly as possible,” she said.

Updated at 10:35 a.m. — Fleming said that power has been restored to most customers in a text message to St. George News. Crews are still working to restore all customers, “but most customers should be back in service,” Fleming said.

Updated at 10:45 a.m. — City of St. George Energy Services’ Rene Fleming reported that power has been restored to all customers.
