CEDAR CITY — Hundreds of sheep were herded down Main Street in Cedar City on Saturday, celebrating the area’s livestock heritage.

Thousands of spectators, locals and visitors alike, lined the street and sidewalks to witness the parade, a key event of the annual Cedar Heritage & Livestock Festival.

The parade serves a practical purpose as far as moving the sheep, as it enables the animals to safely transition from their summer range in the mountains to their wintertime home in the desert valley.

The lively procession also featured cowboys and cowgirls of all ages riding horseback, a herd of longhorn cattle, vintage automobiles, tractors, covered wagons, off-highway vehicles, large pieces of farm machinery and a variety of sheep camp trailers.

Matt Bulloch and his late brother Scott Bulloch, who died in 2022, were the parade’s designated grand marshals.
