But upon arrival near Exit 8 northbound, emergency crews found a 1993 Ford Escape on fire.
“I think he was causing a couple of spots as a brush fire and people saw that and reported it before it was finally seen as a vehicle fire,” Battalion Chief Andres Ojeda told St. George News. “The guy stated he was driving and he heard something, kind of a loud bang on the bottom of the vehicle.”
He added the man driving said he didn’t stop initially but kept going until he saw smoke and his car quit running. The two adults in the vehicle were able to pull over on the side of Interstate 15 just before the bridge near Exit 8.
Traffic was minimally affected while the fire was extinguished, and the exit was temporarily closed. The Arizona Department of Transportation and Mohave County Sheriff’s Office assisted in traffic control.
No injuries were reported.
This report is based on statements from fire officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
