Residents in Santa Clara will get their chance soon as the Santa Clara-Ivins Fire Department is opening the doors to its Rachel Drive fire station to the public for an open house on Oct. 14.

This opportunity allows the public the chance to see the department’s equipment and vehicles up close as well as live demonstrations of firefighting and rescue efforts.

This also is a chance for the department to connect with the community, Division Chief Lance Haynie said.

“Our goal is not only to bring residents together but also to enhance our sense of unity as a community,” Haynie said. “The camaraderie and solidarity forged at such gatherings are invaluable in fortifying our community’s foundation.”

The open house, at the station located at 2365 Rachel Drive, begins at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast and will last until 2 p.m. The cost of the pancakes, which will be served until 10 a.m., is $3 per plate, or $20 for a family.

Along with the community connection, Haynie said the department will also be passing along tips on fire safety and emergency preparedness during 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. live simulations of firefighting and rescue efforts.

“We will showcase informative demonstrations, including a fire attack demonstration and the use of the Jaws of Life for vehicle extrication,” Haynie said.

Update 1 p.m., Sept. 28, 2023: Story corrected with event taking place on Oct. 14, rather than this Saturday.
