According to a press release, this will be the first time that all interim meetings will be held off-site of the Utah State Capitol. Scheduled Sept. 18-20, 2023, the meetings aim to provide Utahns who may not typically attend hearings in Salt Lake City the opportunity to engage with the legislative process.

Lawmakers will also gain a unique perspective on the issues and opportunities impacting Southern Utah.

“Utah is the best-managed state in the nation, and Southern Utah is a key aspect of our strong economy,” said President J. Stuart Adams. “To keep our state at the top, we must keep hearing directly from constituents in their region. It helps us determine how to best solve issues unique to the area while helping improve our state as a whole.”

Tourism in Southern Utah adds $2.6 billion in economic output to our state and is home to Utah’s five National Parks and seven state parks. In recent years, St. George and Washington County have been ranked as one of the fastest-growing metro areas in America.

“Southern Utah plays a key role in Utah’s growth and success,” said Speaker Brad Wilson. “To continue on a path of success and prosperity, we must better understand the unique needs and perspectives of all areas and people in the state. I am looking forward to meeting with our Southern Utah constituency and am hoping to better understand the challenges and opportunities of the region.”

During interim committee meetings, legislators examine vital issues affecting the lives of Utahns in areas ranging from education, transportation, healthcare, economic development and many other issues.

Utahn residents can provide input virtually at le.utah.gov or in person at Utah Tech University next week. Legislative proceedings will also be live-streamed, recorded and shared publicly on le.utah.gov. View meeting times, agendas at the Utah state legislature website.
