On Aug. 23, 2023, Mona Baulbei Moros Carlson, age 57, passed from this life with her family by her side at the Huntman’s Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mona was born to Kerkar Florencia and Max Masaharu Moros on March 27, 1966, in Koror, Palau. One of her favorite things to do growing up was to debate with her father. This gave her a very strong belief in herself and in her opinions. While in high school she decided that she wanted a middle name and so she convinced her father to take her down to the courthouse where she became Mona Baulbei Moros.
Mona excelled at Palau High School and received offers to attend George Washington University, Portland State University and Weber State University among others. Her father Masaharu decided that she should attend Weber State in Ogden, Utah, so she could focus on her studies. This she did; however, she soon met her soon-to-be husband Eric Carlson. It was fate, Eric and Mona were married on July 2, 1985.
Shortly after their marriage, Eric invited the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to share the gospel with Mona. When she was challenged to be baptized, she said yes. Mona explained that she had a dream of her grandmother in which her grandmother nodded her head. Mona knew that she had found the true church. She never looked back, and she never doubted the truth revealed in that dream.
Eric and Mona were sealed in the Manila, Philippines, Temple by Eric’s mission president. Mona served valiantly in all her callings including the primary, as young women’s president, relief society president, Sunday school teacher and maybe her favorite calling as a nursery leader. Mona was integral in the growth of the church in Palau helping to strengthen both the members and the missionaries. Mona’s greatest love in the church was doing genealogy for her family and working in the temple. This love for the temple prompted the family’s move from Palau to St. George, Utah, so that she could be close to the temple.
During Mona’s career, she had two jobs that she loved. In Palau, she served as the political advisor at the U.S. Embassy. She acted as the liaison between the United States and Palauan governments. In this capacity, she worked with presidents, ambassadors, admirals, generals and other high-ranking leaders. Mona was praised for her work ethic and ability to smoothly interact between government agencies. During this experience, she was able to travel the world and experience many unique adventures such as landing on an aircraft carrier.
Once in St. George, she was employed to clean the St. George Temple where she made close loving friends. Perhaps her favorite thing about this job was being able to feel the spirit of the Lord within the temple as she cleaned. She also loved the history of the temple and being able to experience the parts of the temple that the regular patrons did not get to see.
Mona is preceded in death by her father Max Masaharu Moros, her mother Kerkar Florencia Moros and her brother Mista Moros Jr. She is survived by her husband Eric, her children Jared Ngiracheliong, Seth Moros, Ucheltmel Teancum, Uchelsung Gideon, Cullen Deklei and Mesiket Cachet Carlson. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Nevaeh-Ann Kerebngei, Danny Masaharu, Camilla Kerkar and Leila May Baulbei Carlson
Services for Mona will be held on Friday, Sept. 1, at the Southgate 1st Ward, 1068 W Chandler Drive in St. George. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., followed by a funeral service starting at 1 p.m. A private graveside service will immediately follow.
