Shelby Smith of Iron County Board of Realtors helped spearhead the “Stuff the Bus” drive, which ran from Aug. 2-4 at the Cedar City Walmart. Shoppers were encouraged to donate directly or purchase needed supplies and bring them to the school bus parked in front of the store.

Then, on Aug. 8, volunteers gathered at the Board of Realtors office in Cedar City to sort the gathered items, place them in labeled boxes and prepare them for delivery.

Tracy Womack, Iron County School District’s homeless liaison, called the event “a great success.”

“The community really stepped up,” she said, adding, “I have been distributing them to families who we have identified as needy or homeless.”

Womack said that as of Monday, she was still in the process of delivering the items to various schools within the district.

“District officials are aware of the donations and are so grateful for the support from the Iron County Board of Realtors and the community,” she added.
