Amanda Greenwood

Aug. 25, 1980 – July 8, 2023

Amanda Jo Neilson Greenwood, epic-ly loved mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend, left this earthly life on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

She was born to Christine Larsen Neilson and Jim McArthur on August 25, 1980, in St. George. Her parents divorced when she was still a baby, and she was affectionately raised and adopted by her dad, Bruce Neilson.

Growing up in a blended family, there was always something exciting going on; lake trips, camping trips, ski/snow board trips, or just family birthdays and holidays. The family spent time laughing at each other’s expense, reminiscing, gossiping, and laughing at each other’s expense again.

At 19 years old, Amanda welcomed her first son, Kaleb, into this world. His big eyes and curly dark hair took our family’s breath away. As a young single mom, she worked for Brown Consulting Engineering. She loved that job, and it gave her the opportunity to buy her first home for Kaleb and her.

She had married Josh Greenwood in 2005, and they later welcomed Cooper into their tribe. He was their treasure and completed their little family. She sewed Cooper the best ever Elvis Presley Halloween costume and loved showing him off. Her, Kaleb, and Cooper were her greatest accomplishments in this life. One thing we know for sure is they will carry on her silly sense of humor.

Amanda’s hands were gold. Everything she touched looked beautiful and perfectly crafted. She sewed many dresses and costumes. She made the BEST bow ties and made a nice living selling them on Etsy. She was very proud of her sewing business, and it allowed her to work from home and be with her kids more often.

Amanda was always one to be honest and straight forward. She had a soul on fire. She loved hard, and she felt deeply. Unfortunately, these intense and strong emotions became more than her heart and mind could handle.

She is survived by her sons: Kaleb Neilson, and Cooper Greenwood; mother: Christy Neilson; father: Jim McArthur. Brothers: Ryan (Jeannette), Taylor (Tammy), and Cory (Brooke); sisters: Irene, Heather (Dan), and Kariann (JD), and her sister-in-law Christeen.

An army of doting nieces and nephews, beloved cousins and an army of friends that she considered family. She is reunited with her brother Chad and her dad Bruce as well as grandparents and other loved ones.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday July 15, 2023, from 6-9 p.m. at the Bloomington Country Club, 3174 South Bloomington Drive East, St. George, Utah. It will be an open house party and dress code is informal, but fancy outfits and costumes are welcome.

As a family we would like to thank everyone for all the love and support we have received. Our
daughter, sister, mother, and friend was one of a kind.

Family and friends are invited to share tributes online. Arrangements and memorial tree planting by Serenity Funeral Home of Southern Utah, 435-986-9100.
