CEDAR CITY — A woman has been arrested in connection with a suspected homicide Sunday evening in a remote area of western Iron County.
Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:30 p.m. to a report of a deceased individual at a residence north of Beryl in the sparsely populated Hamlin Valley area.
“It was reported that one male was deceased and that the female suspect was still at the location,” according to a news release issued Monday afternoon by Iron County Attorney’s Office. “Upon arriving, deputies set up a perimeter around the location and began searching for the suspect.”
The suspect, identified as Jessica Lynn Sabo, 42, of Beryl, was located a short time later and taken into custody. Once the scene was secure, deputies reportedly found a man dead with a gunshot wound.
Sabo was booked into Iron County Jail in Cedar City shortly after 3:30 a.m. Monday on suspicion of murder, a first-degree felony.
Meanwhile, the man’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Salt Lake City for an autopsy, the county attorney’s office confirmed.
Trajan Evans, deputy Iron County attorney and the county’s public information officer, told Cedar City News that the investigation is active and ongoing.
Evans told Cedar City News the man’s identity hasn’t been released yet, pending notification of next of kin.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
This report is based on statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
